It seems every piece of election coverage I watch, Lincoln's second inaugural address comes up. It seems like this is the end all be all of inaugural addresses, I am not an inaugural speech scholar so I can't really comment, it is a very good speech though. Not only for the message, but for the fact that was conveyed in such a concise speech. The closing really hit home, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Obama use it tomorrow.
With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation's wounds; to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan--to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace, among ourselves, and with all nations.
40 is not the new anything.
