An Open Letter to ABC

Dear ABC,

Let me start off by saying that I am a big fan of your network. You hooked me with TGIF when I was a kid, and since then I always gravitate towards your shows. Which is why it pains me to write you this letter.

In a world of CSI's, NCIS's, Criminal Mind's, and Law and Order's how can you cancel a series like Pushing Daisies.

To start off Pushing Daisies resides in a world, that seems to be pulled from a child's imagination. One in which a Pie Shop is in the shape of a Pie, and a pie maker can bring people back from the dead with the touch of a finger. A world where you never know when someone will break into song or end up dead.

You have a show in which a viewer can become invested in if they want, waiting to find out if Ned and Chuck will ever be able to touch again. Or if you would prefer you can drift in and out, and enjoy each shows encapsulated plot.

The casting and cameos are terrific and the plots are always slightly out of the realm of realism without being unbelievable.

I wanted to follow the stories of the inhabitants of the Pie Hole for years to come. Unfortunately I only have three more episodes left to enjoy. You didn't even give the creators of the show the courtesy of informing them in time so they would be able to tie up loose ends. From what I hear, the show ends in a cliffhanger. One that you seem okay to let hang forever.

Next year, if you come out with some reality show, or a standard crime drama, you will have moved one step closer to losing me forever.

I hope that in the future you allow shows that buck the mainstream trend the ability to grow.

Disapointedly Yours,
Eric Powers

PS: To the creators of Pushing Daisies, I have heard that you are looking at completing the story with either a comic book or potential movie. Please do so. All to often I have been left at the end of a TV season looking forward to what the next season will bring. Only to have it canceled and be left wondering forever. I hope that you can wrap up the story you started. Oh, and I am sorry that ABC canceled your show.

Welcome to my world, where Arrested Development also gets the kiss of death for daring to be innovative and different. Futurama goes down the toilet for not grabbing viewers after always being preempted by football.

Sadly, television is a business first and an art second. Getting them to overlap is the sign of something special. The gems like The Simpsons are true rarities in an increasingly homogenized world.

Ah, well...
